Many youths plate bakala inoder to look beautiful or handsome not knowing that,Balaka was never meant for fashion

The history of bakala is being trace back during the period of slavery when the whites were masters over the black people.

Since the black people where going through in-Human treatment in the hands of their masters some decided to plan an escape.

communication between the slaves was forbidden,so as a way to communicated and plan the escape,the ladies plated bakalas on their head.

Bakala was used as a map that oriented the men on the path(road) they where going to take during escape

That’s why you will see some styles of bakala with many divergent line going here and there is not style oh is a map .women used to put food and silver in between the lines of their braids when planning to escape so they used them to survived from hunger and starvation during escape

Some expert in beauty hair says that our ancestors had long hair because they were putting rice in between their bakala when plating,not knowing that, the initial purpose of the rice was to survive from hunger during escape
