Sean……….your arguments are old, hackneyed and very limited. The beautiful game isn’t beautiful because it is old and unchanged. The first Association football rules may have been created in the 19th century but they have changed significantly and are now better designed to aid the game. The principle purpose of the rules is to provide a fair and unbiased event for both teams and spectators. The second purpose is to protect the integrity of the game. VAR and GLT provide excellent service for both ideals. Human error is far too damaging to permit it to continue. Every sport has technology in order to assist the referee or judge to make a call that is more accurate, fairer and more equitable, as as a former professional official I can attest to the need and the usefulness of both VAR and GLT. Every referee I know adores the access they will eventually have to VAR and GLT because they know the professional game has become so fast and so hard that keeping up is getting more and more difficult. On average, officials make about 8–10 serious mistakes in every game, including missed fouls and offsides, serious foul play not punished or even detected, etc. VAR and GLT is NOT discredited but rather in the process of being perfected…..it is only the English FA dinosaurs who refuse to consider its use…..I guess you side with them?
