BBQ success or disaster? pt5

Week one of my on track Slimming World journey and yesterday I had to attend a BBQ for my Dad’s Birthday. Did I succeed in staying on plan or did I give in to temptation. I’ll let you decide.

When I think BBQ, I think food and lots of it, meat, salad, rolls. Excess at its best, then on top of that alcohol, beer, wine and later shots. Of course we are at my Dad’s house so not quite the partyQ but still the food side should be a given.

However, my Dad’s partner has never been very generous on the portion sizes and the salad part is usually very small. A house of 11 adults and four children and that wouldn’t even warranty a full cucumber being sliced up. How many of you avoid taking the last piece of meat or the last roll? You feel rude doing so, but when barely anything is put out you feel rude eating anything at all.

Knowing this was the situation I was going into and knowing that the meat on offer was likely to be sausages and burgers, I took my own. I took a pack of chicken breasts, wholemeal rolls and a big bowl of pre-made salad (thank you Asda). We always offer as the kids to bring some food round, to always be told not to worry they have everything. I knew what to expect though so I took my own anyway.

When I pulled out my chicken explaining I can’t eat lost of sausages and burgers so I bought my own chicken. I was told they had chicken and shown barely a breast worth in an oven pan. And when I pulled out the salad I saw my Dad’s partner roll her eyes like how rude for me to bring that when they have salad. Well I’m sorry but I wanted to eat and not feel like I was doing another family member out of their dinner.

So my chicken was cooked and I had a chicken breast in a a wholemeal roll I hide them. I had plenty of salad too. However, I couldn’t resist a burger in a roll but I thought it’s ok I’ ve got syns to use. Now if I’d have stopped at that one, I’d have been fine but I had 2, both in wholemeal rolls with no ketchup. The end of the day results in 31.5 syns that is twice the daily allowance. I was disappointed in myself for not having more restraint, however, over the course of the week my syns average at 12 a day. Some people have totally syns free days Monday to Friday then eat what they like on the weekends without worrying because they have their syns saved up. Not always the best way but it works for some if you can be syn free for five days straight.

So did my first temptation cause me to fail? I guess the scales will be the true deciding factor, tomorrow will tell all. Tomorrow’s post, weight on? Weight off? I certainly don’t feel like I’ve lost any, morning will bring the answers.
