What I’ve learnt and how is stacks up

July 10th to August 9th

My average read rate over the last month is 71%, that is great I think? Though ion some it’s lower than others as is the way. One of the things I realised is that I started my Medium journey on the 1st of July and I had thought that I had started writing daily from the 10th having read Anna Sabino post on writing every day as part of a Ninja Writers Challenge.

Anna was my first read on Medium and ‘fan girl moment’ I love reading her stuff. Every morning her post is in my inbox and 99 times out of 100 it’s something that I’m wanting to read. She had a couple of days off her usually posting schedule and she said it hit her stats hard you can read the post HERE. It made me think about if I had noticed and the truth was I hadn’t. My inbox get’s so full of this course creator, this entrepreneur, this marketer because I love learning I sign up for almost anything that is free. So I hadn’t noticed her posts weren’t in my morning in tray because someone else’s post was in there instead and I breezed past.

It made me realise that I have the same problem though I haven’t entered to publications and don’t have a mass following I share my posts to my Facebook and I notice the difference if I post early or later in the day. This doesn’t work great for my daily posting as I like to write in the morning but i’m not always finished in time to post so I’m going to have to rethink my posting habits to try and be more consistent on my timings.

That was an extended tangent. back to my daily posting. I haven’t posted every day in fact it wasn’t until the 20th of July that I became more focused on getting something up daily. I did miss a couple of days but generally since the 20th I’ve posted daily. What I don’t understand is the spike. My 20th post got my biggest read to date and the reads are still growing on it. I know I link back to it which helps. However, I don’t understand why I haven’t been able to manage to get there again.

So, I’m really looking for some advice and some pointers from my fellow writers. Please give some of my posts a read and if you can give me any feedback I’d be grateful. Perhaps I just need to keep up the consistence and then it will grow organically over time perhaps I’m trying to run before I can walk. Either way it’s good to hear from others.

The other thing I’ve yet to learn is how to get published by a publication. I submitted to one and signed up to another yet I heard nothing from the first and the second doesn’t have any clear guidelines. Do I publish on my profile and send them a link do I send them a copy in email if so how do they link it to my profile and give me credit? If anyone has a post they can point to that will help answer those questions I’d love to see it.

Overall the main thing I've learnt from my 5 weeks on medium is, I’ve missed writing and reading. I listen to Audio Books mainly as I don’t have time to sit with a book and I love medium for giving us a Xmin read with posts because I can always fit a 3 minute read in and if it’s longer I can save it for later. I have found some great writers to follow and i’m working on my novel again, I’m looking forward to continuing my journey with you all and seeing where it will lead.

If you like this please give it a heart ❤ and if you have any advice, tip, hints post links let me know. Thanks for reading.
