This is the first time in a decade of doing Crestron Apps that they’ve asked everyone to download the updated version right away.

Why did they make a new app?

Apple has required that Crestron become compatible with their highest resolution screens.

Why do I need this update?

When you dowloaded the Silver Crestron App, you had to hit the button to “Upgrade” to activate it with their system, which was a $99 in-app purchase. Through August 31st, you can download the new app and do the required upgrade for free. After that, they’re going to charge people the same in-app purchase on the new app, even if you had the old app. You need to do this for iPad and iPhone separately.

Is the old Silver App going to stop working?

No, not as long as you don’t change your phone, update it, or change anything on the system.

Can I do this myself without having to have a service call?

Yes! I’ll explain in this lesson how to do it. There’s even a video explanation.

Can I just have my Crestron dealer send someone over to do it?

Yes. If we’re your people, give us a call. But you have to be there with your iPhone. You can also make an appointment to bring your devices to the office.

If you don’t have time to deal with this right now, at least download it and hit the upgrade button right away. You can continue to use the silver app in the meantime. Then when you have time to talk to us, we can get your new app setup.

Will the new Crestron Go App be different from the old Silver Crestron App

No. Design and functions are the same. Your graphics and user interface are a custom design from your integrator. Higher resolution iPhone graphics are supported, so it will look sharper if you have a newer iPhone.

How do I update it myself?

First, go to the Apple Settings App and scroll down to the old Silver Crestron App. Be sure that Lock Configuration and Auto-Reconnect are disabled.

Now launch the old Silver Crestron App and immediately touch the screen while it’s trying to connect. This in most cases will get you to the setup page. If you have our Custom App that we call “Blue Steel” there is a hidden button on the main page at the top right that will get you to app setup.

If your Silver app is working right now, then you’ll export settings. From the Crestron App Setup page, click the settings icon in the bottom left. Then click export settings. Save that file to your iCloud drive somewhere — but remember the folder it’s in.

Now go to the App Store and download the new Crestron Go app — it’s Blue with the white Crestron Swirl logo.

For iPad: Click here for Crestron Go Tablet:

Launch it and click the “Upgrade” button at the bottom. Do this before August 31, 2020 and it won’t cost anything. It should say that your purchase was restored.

Once that’s completed, you can import your settings. Go to the Apple Files App, and navigate to the Crestron file you saved. Click on it, then click the share button at the bottom. Scroll down to “Copy to Crestron Go”. Then the new app will pop up. It’ll say that the app settings were successfully imported. You can click that screen to clear it.

If you’re setting it up from scratch, click the plus button at the bottom right of the Crestron Go Setup Page to add a site. Ask your dealer for all of the information that you need to fill out this site page, and fill in all the required fields.

For either method, you may have SSL authentication enabled. If so, you will need to call your dealer and ask for the user name and password to fill in there. Fill that in, and do the password in both fields to confirm.

After filling all that information in, click the save button at the top right. Do this for all the sites you have on your app if you have more than one home or location.

Now launch the app and confirm that it connects. If it’s all working, go back to the Apple Settings App and scroll down to select Crestron Go. If you like, you can Lock Configuration and Auto Reconnect in order to get the app to launch faster. It’s also helpful to enable the “hide demo” option.

The last step is to delete the old Silver Crestron App so that you’re not confused about which one to use.

That’s it! You did it! Pat yourself on the back. If you’re one of our people, send me a quick note to let me know everything went okay. Of course if you have any trouble with this, give me a call and I’ll walk you through it over the phone. If you prefer, give us a call to schedule a someone to come out and take care of it for you. Don’t forget, you also need to do this on the iPad!

Here is an instructional video I made to walk you through it:
