How Solo Travel Will Unlock a Wealth of Joy Part 1: Ultimate Freedom

I’m convinced that joy is the most positive, life-altering feeling to experience right next to love. Since encountering this new-found sense of joy that developed while I traveled solo, I feel like I have a warm, comforting blanket wrapped around my soul. I’m peacefully at rest. Content. Anxieties are minimal. Stronger self love and a connection to God is evident. And, I have a new appreciation for life and understanding of what it means to live. Really live.

“Joy is the fibre of your Soul. It’s the stuff of your essence. And since you, your Soul, can never be annihilated, your access to joy never vanishes. Because joy is so foundational to your true being, every other state or emotion can rest on top of joy, it can accommodate everything.” ~Daniella LaPorte (The difference between happiness and joy. And, why it helps to know)

I’ve asked myself, ‘What about this solo journey created this new, pressing feeling of joy?’ In the past I have traveled with others, but didn’t feel as much self-confidence and harmony coming out of those experiences as I sense deep within me now. This led me to believe that there is a strong, undeniable value in traveling alone.

One aspect of solo travel that unleashed the feeling of joy for me was the benefit of experiencing ultimate independent freedom.

I didn’t realize until I was traveling alone how frequently I spend my time doing for and thinking about others. Of course it’s important to be conscious of the well-being of the people in our lives. After all, a large part of our existence should be spent showing kindness and care for one another, but when we get wrapped up in the lives of others day after day, we start to lose ourselves a bit. Our passions, interests, and true selves hide behind our attempts to do what others may need from us. And, after awhile, that can feel suffocating.

Solo travel is life’s ultimate reset because you have the freedom to allow all of who you are to be present. No more hiding. No more setting you aside. At every given moment you have the absolute pleasure of achieving what you desire and this allows for an incredible personal transformation. Your soul will revitalize. Your heart will be blessed. You will feel happy. You will experience joy.

Carving out some intentional time to just be with yourself on a solo trip is acceptable because you deserve it. You need it. And, you should want it because it’s a grand adventure! Solo travel is necessary for the development of your overall well-being. And, when you take care of yourself, you will be a better person for others in your life when they need you.
