How to be authentic and why?

This is my first post, and I want to dedicate it to the topic of authenticity. I want to discuss how to be authentic so you can learn how to be your authentic self. Being authentic has helped me become more confident of myself and discover what I want.

I want you to learn to live authentically so you can find purpose in your life. And to have a meaningful life that you actually want to get up for every morning. Eventually, you don’t want to have the regret of not going after the life that you really wanted to live.

“I wish I’d had the courage to live a life true to myself, not the life others expected of me.” — Bronnie Ware, The Top Five Regrets of the Dying

You don’t want to (one day be on your deathbed) literally tell yourself “I wish I hadn’t listen to what other people expected of me and just listen to myself”. Now is the time to start listening to yourself and the way to do that is to be more of your authentic self.

If there is something that you don’t agree with or you don’t like, then don’t pretend that you like it. Or if there is something that you prefer or love, then be enthusiastic. Or if you’re indifferent towards something, then be indifferent.

Do not suppress your feelings. Just be completely honest and transparent with who you are. People will be attracted to you and in what you do because you’re authentic. That’s what you should hold on to.

But what if you don’t know what you want?

It is easy to say “I don’t know what I really want”. But if you keep saying this, chances are, you’ll never know and never figure it out.

So think about it this way: you could continue to say “I don’t know”, or you could acknowledge that and tell yourself “I’d figure it out”. If you tell yourself “I’d figure it out”, you start working on it and keep moving forward to the direction of where you eventually will want to be. You don’t have the full picture yet, but now you know bits and pieces and start piecing them together.

How has this resonated with you? I’d love to hear from you.
