Bringing Transparency to Healthcare — Why We Funded HealthWiz (YC S17)
Meet the team that’s revolutionizing healthcare for both employers and employees.
Dorm Room Fund is excited to announce our investment in HealthWiz, a one-stop-shop for navigating your healthcare journey.

Ready to redefine an unstructured, messy, and age-old industry ripe for disruption, HealthWiz is bringing transparency to the healthcare system by allowing employees to better navigate their benefits — resulting in less wasted spend, a faster return to health, and lower healthcare costs for employers.
As a result of lowering wasted spend, HealthWiz lowers costs without having to reduce healthcare benefits for the employees.
The key players in the space are all centered around hotlines and concierge services — by being technology-first, HealthWiz touches upon major pain points like:
- Affordability For Employers: current solutions are very expensive and can only be afforded by very large corporations.
- Accessibility & Scalability: Concierge services involve one-on-one consultations with each employee — by being technology-first, HealthWiz is scalable and accessible to all teams.
- Millennial-Friendly Solution: Many younger employees don’t like to use concierge services and hotlines—the younger audience prefers to find their answers online instantly.
It’s time to put an end to the one-sided world of healthcare. Employers and employees should both be able to benefit from healthcare solutions, not just one or the other. With HealthWiz, we couldn’t be more confident that the dynamic will shift in this direction.

Why DRF invested
At DRF, the teams we invest in and founders we support are cherished above all, so we make sure to take the time to fund only the best people. And it doesn’t get much better than Nate². This dynamic duo — Nate Fox (HBS ’17) and Nate Maslak (HBS ‘17)— brings a scrappy, data-driven, GSD mentality that all of us can really get excited about; it’s inspiring to watch how fast they can iterate in a space that is historically very slow moving. Nate and Nate are the definition of hustle, and will stop at nothing to improve healthcare outcomes for their users. More than this, they’re also incredibly self-aware, taking the time to point out their weaknesses and help us understand how they’ll work through these tough spots. This level of grit, integrity, and passion is what it means to be a DRF founder, and we couldn’t be more proud to call them one of us.
Of course, while the people behind the product are awesome, we’d be remiss if we failed to wax poetic about the incredible product they’re building! Funding meaningful products that can impact large markets in significant ways is what we’re all about, and that’s an understatement for Healthwiz. Healthwiz is a joy to use and is already helping employees triage their symptoms, find applicable health care professionals, and estimate costs. As an investment team, we have been truly impressed with Nate²’s ability to execute, both on building their product and convincing people to use it.
It’s important to note that this industry is a rocky one, and this investment isn’t without risks. All things considered though, we genuinely could not think of a better team to be tackling this problem. We’re so excited to see what Nate and Nate build for HealthWiz next, and we wish them the best of luck at Y Combinator’s Demo Day this week.
