Dorm Room Fund Is Taking On The Hackathon Circuit This Fall, Starting With PennApps!
Hackathons are home to a lot of incredibly talented builders, hackers and creators, many of whom are currently and will become deeply involved in the entrepreneurial community. A huge part of our mission here at Dorm Room Fund is to create a support structure and network to help students with their startup ideas, and support them as they venture into the world of startups.
With that in mind, Dorm Room Fund will be taking on the university hackathon circuit this fall, starting at PennApps, the nation’s first-student run hackathon.
We’re kickstarting this hackathon tour by holding a workshop on “What investors don’t tell you about pitching” at PennApps. In this workshop, we will be sharing tips on how to clearly articulate to investors what they want to know about your company. We will also be holding Office Hours at PennApps, where anyone is welcome to drop by to chat with our Investment Partners.
We understand that, especially for first time founders, the funding process can be daunting and opaque. We hope to demystify some of the process at these workshops and office hours by giving tips on when to reach out to Dorm Room Fund (early!), what we look for above all else (team!), things that turn us off during pitches (just saying ‘AI’ randomly when it’s not relevant to your company), and more.
Our goal is to be a resource in whatever way possible whether it be advice about an idea you’ve been working on, feedback about a company you’re building, connections we can make for you to get that dream job at a startup or funding to take your startup project to the next level.
Whether you’re building the next big-thing, hacking away on a side-project or interested in learning more about startups, please do come say hi to us!
We’re looking forward to meeting some amazing hackers and entrepreneurs this semester, and growing the DRF community with some of your companies!
