Dash Electric: the Last Mile Vehicle

We’re excited to announce that we have invested in electric longboard company, Dash Electric.

As a group of university students, we related with Northeastern student and Dash Electric founder, Ian Carlson’s, frustration with commuting to and from class and around Boston. He explained to us the troubles of trying to maneuver a bike from class to the subway or the impracticality of taking an Uber everywhere he went. Everyone especially agreed with how brutal those last 15 minutes of walking from the T to your destination are in the frigid, Boston winters. In an effort to solve this problem, Ian put his design and mechanical engineering talents to the test to build a sleek and technologically advanced electric longboard motor. After Ian’s prototype won Demo Day at the Northeastern Husky Startup Challenge and made waves at IDEA and MassChallenge, he knew that his innovative boards could help solve commuting pains experienced by the whole community.

We’ve decided to invest not only because electric longboards make getting around town fun and easy, but also because of the distinguished design and functionalities of Dash Electric motors. Dash Electric stands out amongst competitors because of its flexibility; Dash Electric motors can be sold in a kit, allowing boarders to attach a motor directly to their own longboards, or simply as a brand new longboard with the Dash Electric motor pre-installed. This modular design allows Dash Electric motors’ starting price to come in at around $500, about half the price of the nearest competitors’ products. Ian hopes that the accessibility of Dash Electric motors will expand the market for electric transportation- especially for college students.

Dash Electric has come a long way since winning Demo Day. With the help of a Dorm Room Fund investment, the Dash Electric team will start diving into production, as well as launch a Kickstarter in the upcoming months. We’re excited to help Ian and his team develop Dash Electric and get the boards out into the market! Stay tuned by following @DashElectric.
