Easiest trick is to indent to shift text OR numbers away from margin a bit. Works on left or right alignment. With the indent button on Home:Alignment ribbon menu or in Alignment tab of Format Cells dialog.

OR…Using number formatting you can add a smaller amt of space to numeric column with “_)” in a custom format. That’s how Excel keeps positive numbers right-aligned with negatives wrapped in parens. The parens need that space-padding. Anyhoo…I’m sure you’ll figure it out. ;-)
