Seriously, it astounds me by the number of people who have come to refer to James Damore as “that Google Dudebro” — isn’t that exactly the kind of gender-based stereotyping that people are saying makes him so wrong and bad in his actions?

I still wonder how the Internet would have reacted if a woman had posted what he did. Saying, “but a woman never would have done such a thing,” seems like a specious way of getting out of having to consider the situation. Would we refer to this Jane Doe as “that self-hating Google woman”? Would she be told to shut up and go away like James has?

I don’t agree with James, but I find the reaction and his treatment to basically reinforce the problems he’s trying to highlight.
