When You’re Finished Changing, You’re Finished

My name is Austin Dixon (my co-workers have come to nickname me “Tina”), and I am a Senior Project Manager here at DoubleMap. I have been a part of the DoubleMap Team for about 3 years now, and it has been nothing short of a great and interesting ride. Being part of a thriving start up company, my time here has been marked by the need to step into varying roles as our business has expanded.

Being completely new to software and technology, programming our Mobile Data Terminals (tablets) back in college part time was my first step into DoubleMap. The tablets would eventually be installed on buses across the country to be tracked by a transit operator monitoring mileage reports, a person commuting to work, or a student running late to class. It was a minor role in a much bigger picture, but it was small opportunity that would grow into something much larger.

The number of DoubleMap staff at that time was a fraction of what it is today, and back then they quickly needed more help as business scaled up. After college, I joined DoubleMap full time as an Operations Assistant. This new role included overseeing product shipments, data entry, software trainings and tier one support for our clients; it was a new set of procedures with its own challenges.

I am now responsible for implementing vehicle dispatching systems and mobile applications for varying transit organizations across the country. My days consist of gathering and communicating information both internally and externally in order make sure our clients have what they need. I never expected to work in the transit space, but it is nonetheless a rewarding experience to provide a product to a wide range of people to make their commutes and jobs easier.

Growth has been a wonderful challenge we have been working through since the beginning, and with that challenge we have acquired many great people who have become a part of a team. My position and responsibilities at DoubleMap have changed many times over the past few years, and I know the same is true for many others in all of our departments. One of the greatest attributes of our company is we are willing and able to adapt our products, processes, roles, etc. in order to meet our clients’ and end users’ needs. Being a smaller company, our roles overlap at times in order to meet different needs. Everyone is willing to help each other out and become familiar with different parts of our company and product. Our internal processes and job descriptions are living and breathing because we need to be able to adapt to what our clients need in order to be successful. This type of environment absolutely keeps you on your toes and at times can be hectic, but this strategy allows our Operations team to become well rounded and able to field whatever comes their way.
