The Agony and the Ecstasy of Thom Nickels.

When I was commenting on Nickels’ article, and then engaging with him for a few rounds, I don’t think I was trying to change his mind. And I definitely share your assertion that it feels good to be right. But… I am not given to commenting on things of this nature, and as I reflect on why I felt so compelled to, it was not simply because it was low hanging fruit and easily torn apart. There was something else… an urgency. A recognition that my family was being assaulted and needed defending. A recognition that ignorance that is weaponized and deployed publicly needs to be challenged publicly, particularly when that targets of that ignorance are people who I consider friends and colleagues. Personal satisfaction aside, walking by that crime scene was not going be possible for me.
