An election is hacked if the vote totals are tampered with. A campaign is hacked if somebody {say Nixon} illegally accesses the plans of the other side. It is tampered with if someone {say a journalist} feeds debate questions in advance to one of the candidates {say Hillary}. Or if someone’s legally off-limits tax information is leaked by the IRS to the press.
A clean election, in which nothing of the sort happens, is known as a “Fairy Tale”. The campaign we just had saw both hacking and tampering, and Hillary was the beneficiary of some of it and damaged by some of it. But it is hard to cry overmuch when some of the truth about her own cheating comes out by way of other dishonest means. Or if Trump’s tax info, which he ought to have put out on his own, comes out by way of other dishonest means.
