Thanks for sharing. I can relate. As a college student doing campus evangelism, I remember having to choose whether to vote for Reagan because he was pro-life (how I understood the abortion issue then), or vote for Carter because he was anti-nuke. I decided nuclear weapons could kill more people, and voted for Carter.

Interestingly, I now know that Reagan’s economics hit a crisis point mid-Presidency, where he had to go to the conservative business community and tell them that trickle-down was only going to work, if they *made* it work: if they created jobs, invested in people… you almost never hear that story.

In any case, for me it’s simple: I John 4:7–8.
