Expensive Public Transportation Projects Won’t Survive the Shift to Autonomous Vehicles

Maintaining, building highways and streets have a cost too. Autonomous vehicles won’t substantially decrease the strain on highway infrastructure. Perhaps being able to pilot the vehicles closer together will help ease stress for awhile, but as population increases, you are still going to have same problems of ever increasing congestion. Ultimately having 1–2000 pound vehicles moving a single person around will never be quite as efficient as mass transit options.
