The mating game
Other than a few hundred people living in small tribes here or there, the entire world of humans – all eight billion of them – is based on the premise of the female human attracting a male human to her and the male making approaches to women of interest. Societies develop generally-understood patterns of movement, looks and speech that a woman uses to signal to a specific man that she is open to being approached. These behaviours change over time but can be easily identified in any period of history. Not all of these behaviours are aimed at a specific man – they are shot out like a scattergun to all men.
