Things haven’t changed much in recent years, Ron. If anything, where there used to be strong male characters, there is now more likely to be a women in the position. From police forensics through detective chiefs to space scientists, the top people are usually women these days. Sometimes these female characters are quite credible; some of them really are so far away from reality that what is meant to be drama becomes comedy.

It is rather sad commentary on a society that openly welcomes women into top positions and has been educating women to higher standards than men for many decades, yet in which few women make the effort and sacrifices to achieve top positions.

Meanwhile, television shows continue to show boys that the only role model for them is an incompetent buffoon.
