I am fascinated with the Classical world within its own context, of course this requires understanding as much as possible about the way the ancients thought (and that is where this site excels!); but I am also fascinated with the transition between the Classical era and the modern era.
The past fifty years have seen a big growth in scholarship focusing on Late Antiquity but I am also very curious about the period preceding that era, the so-called Crisis of the Third Century where a seeming perfect storm of invasions, civil wars, plagues, economic collapse and financial and social problems led to the solutions imposed by Diocletian and Constantine. This is where you see the rise of Christianity and the creation of social relations which would become prevalent in the Medieval period. So, more of that stuff, please!
