Demi Lovato sings the American Anthem on Super Bowl 2020
Demi Lovato performs the national anthem before Super Bowl @Daily News

It’s not a secret that I’m not a huge sports fan especially football but with Super Bowl, things are different. It is reported that this year’s media budget exceeded $5.6 million for the most expensive 30-second ads. This kind of number is huge, so the question remains did these investments pay off? Only time will tell!

Before we get down to ads I want to mention the tweet of Demi Lovato who performed the national anthem yesterday. Ten (10) years ago she tweeted that one day she would sing (the national anthem), and she did!

Tweet of Demi Lovato (2010)

In the following lines, you will find all the ad movies (TVCs) I consider this year’s winners.

Amazon -Before Alexa

An excellent and funny ad starring Ellen DeGeneres and Portia de Rossi showing what Alexa can do.

Google — Loretta

This year’s tech giant’s ad is about a man remembering the love of his life with a little “help”.

Hyundai — Smaht Pahk

One of the greatest TVCs of the night was the Hyundai’s starring Chris Evans, John Krasinski, Rachel Dratch. All three of them react to Sonata’s newest smart features.

T-Mobile -It works

Anthony Anderson switches his mom’s carrier and she calls him… a lot. A movie about T-Mobile’s 5G capabilities!

Jeep- Groundhog Day

I’m quoting directly from a CNN article “ The closest the day came to advertising perfection.” Enjoy:

Doritos-The Cool Ranch

In this TVC, we are witnessing a showdown between Sam Elliott and Lil Nas (respectively). One of my favorites!

Microsoft- Katie Sowers

“I’m not trying to be the best female coach. I’m trying to be the best coach”. What a powerful message, well done. This one is my favorite ❤

Facebook-Ready to Rock?

An honorable mention, and the platforms first-ever Super Bowl ad. This movie is about the communities on Facebook!

Fellas, I believe that it’s a great time to be in the ad business. The industry is changing rapidly and we have to adapt to these new circumstances. Digital (marketing) does not own all our ad dollars (depending on your currency). Surely we are in that direction but not there yet!
