Benefits Of Being A Realtor

Many of us in 2017 fantasize about having a great paying career that is both enjoyable and flexible, but sadly, very few of us ever find one. So many people trade their hopes and dreams for a time consuming low wage job because they think there is not another option for them. Those people are either oblivious to the many self-employment opportunities out there or are unwilling to consider a sales related career. For those seeking an escape from what Robert Kiyosaki refers to as the Rat Race, one great option is focusing on a career in Real Estate. What’s great about being a Realtor is the fact that you have no financial cap, to can earn as much as you No other career offers you the ability to earn big commission checks and the freedom to work around your schedule.

Getting Your License

The regulations for obtaining your Real Estate license varies from state to state, however, in New Jersey, you first need to be at least 18 years of age and have at least a high school diploma or GED. Then you need to attend a 75-hour license class program and pass both the school and state exam. Afterwards, you get fingerprinted, and then you’re ready to begin a career in Real Estate! But before you get ahead of yourself, getting your license is the easy part, the next challenge is finding a good agency that is going to show you the ropes to ensure you succeed in your career.

Choosing A Good Brokerage

After getting your license, the time comes to choose where you want to hang your license. This is where you want to be as picky as possible. Agencies to Realtors is like teams to Basketball players; you don’t want to be a part of a terrible agency. Many Real Estate agencies all across New Jersey spend a substantial amount of money on advertisement for recruiting new agents, just to have an abundance of Realtors. Unfortunately, no time or effort is put into training these new agents, and many of them are given no help with their career, which leads to the inevitable “Rage Quit.” Before you jump the gun and join an agency, there are three things you need to be aware of.

Independent Contractor Agreement

There is a document called an Independent Contractor Agreement which keeps you employed at any brokerage. The problem with this document is it’s usually one-sided, and it’s not in your favor. It’s important to take the time to review this document before joining any agency because there have been many instances where Realtors want to switch to another agency and in the process, they lose all their listings and commission because they failed to read the Independent Contractor Agreement. Don’t let this happen to you. Review this document thoroughly.

Ask about the fees

There are many ways a broker can surreptitiously take an extra chunk out of your commission check, and one common way is with fees. The broker can charge some rather ridiculous fees such as Wi-Fi fees, franchise fees, marketing fees, and even technology fees. Another way is through the insurance since insurance is not always charged the same at every brokerage. The broker can easily pad their insurance and charge you much more than what you should be paying. When joining any brokerage, remember to ask about the fees and insurance.

Training

Once you do become a Real Estate agent, who is going to teach you everything you need to know? You may think the Real Estate class is all the training you need to succeed, but every Realtor quickly learns that is far from the truth. The school teaches you what you need to know to pass the exam, but most of that knowledge is actually pretty useless when it comes down to talking to clients and closing deals. All the pivotal sales related skills are either gained with experience, or passed on by a mentor with experience. Many long-time Realtors can attest to the fact that it is possible to go a full year without making a single penny because of a lack of knowledge. That’s why it is so crucial choosing an agency that will provide you the training you need to succeed as a Real Estate Agent.
