Waltonchain’s Food Traceability System
Background
With a growing demand for food consumption, and a rise in usage of pesticides, the need for food traceability system has never been higher. In fact, one of the topics on the national agenda is Food/Agricuture Traceability. Here is a quote:
“…propose to raise awareness of prevention and control of chronic diseases throughout the country, establish a scientific health knowledge dissemination system; recommend improving the traceability system of food and agricultural products, and establish a long-term mechanism for food safety;…” [1]
Walton’s involvement
From the Korean interview in past, Walton has acknowledged working on a agriculture traceability solution (and a separate drug detection system that could be used for pesticide residual detection).
Now, Walton has published a high-level blueprint of the agriculture traceability solution [2] and a drug traceability system [3]. In case you are wondering, Xiamen IOT is a direct subsidiary of Waltonchain [10].
As to how it might be used:
“Consumers can scan the product QR code through a smart phone to inquire about the raw materials, production and transportation of the product, and provide consumers with comprehensive, transparent and uniform food traceable public information services to help consumers buy safe and reliable products. . The establishment of a food traceability information platform can effectively reduce various types of security risks and help build a new consumer environment where everyone participates and society co-governs.” [4]
Although there is some competition in this space, Walton have an advantage over other systems due to custom IC chips and the blockchain element.
“It is reported that as early as the year 2000, Fujian Province took the lead in the nationwide layout of the Internet of Things industry. Today, Fujian Province has basically formed an Internet of Things industrial chain covering chip devices, equipment, software, integration, and operations.” [5]
Hints of where Walton is implementing this solution
Late last year, the president of Xiamen IoT Industry Association (XIOTIA), Zhao Shanren, signed an agreement for IoT agriculture projects with Jianxi, Shuozhou and Shanxi goverments.
“At the invitation of the event organizer, Zhao Shanren, president of the Xiamen IoT Industry Association, will attend the “New Silk Road Opportunity, New Enterprise Development”, “Shanxi Industry Matchmaking Symposium” and other activities as an important guest.
It is understood that during the Xiamen Fair, the Xiamen IOT Industry Association will sign a “smart agriculture” strategic cooperation agreement with Shanxi’s Yingxian County, and sign an IoT industry fund agreement on the “Silk Road New Opportunity, Corporate New Development” event. The People’s Government of Jiangxi Province and the People’s Government of Shuozhou Municipality have signed cooperation agreements for the IoT agricultural project” [6][7]
Lin Herui (who happens to be Fujian IOT Association Vice President) met up with Zhao Sharen in November to showcase Walton tech [8]. So connecting the dots, Walton could actually be working with multiple governments.
Note: Fujian Province’s GDP is about the same as Ireland [9]
In short, the future is exciting!
