Ravencoin (RVN) is a project, fork of Bitcoin specialized in asset tokenization. Following the Bitcoin fair, open and free launch, is represented by its community of users, developers and miners.

On the path of seeking decentralization, elimination of the not trusted middleman, Ravencoin was born.

Many aspects make Ravencoin a goto blockchain for assets representation on the blockchain. Some of them are:

  1. Unique naming scheme. Similar to website URLs, like google.com. Ravencoin has a clear and unique token naming scheme and structure. If you create the Main asset GOOGLE, APPLE or MICROSOFT these are guaranteed to be the only ones in existence in the world! And when interacting with the assets and sub-assets from the person or entity you are making business with, they provide you with a Main asset name and since they are unique on the blockchain you have the guarantee you are dealing with the real owners. No weird contract hashes that may lead so many to unwanted mistakes, confusions, scams, etc.
  2. With the ASIC resistant algorithm KawPow, it guarantees that even if an ASIC was to mine on the blockchain it would look very much like a GPU and at that point ASIC manufacturers would be a proper competitor to companies like Nvidia and AMD. Additionally, provides more inclusion and as a byproduct, more decentralization on the network. Since anyone with a GPU at home could mine the coin and help secure the network. GPUs are also a lot more easy to find in the open market, which even a lot of ASIC manufactures are know to pre mine with their new hardware before putting them in the market for sale, for testing purposes (of course!)
  3. The platform is settled to be the perfect next step for Stock representation on the blockchain. APPLE, Microsoft, TESLA, etc could decide to create and trade their tokens on the Ravencoin blockchain and settle the ownership with their investors. Providing perks like broadcasting messages to their holders, distributing dividends, etc

There are many more use cases and benefits from the RVN project and we could sit here all day reading about RVN. And since a big part of the decentralization process depends also on full nodes running, I decided to create a solution making use of the decentralized hosting infrastructure provided by FLUX - https://www.runonflux.io/

Since Ravencoin full nodes work as full copies of the RVN ledger, and also as main point of contact for transactions on the blockchain, the more the better!

FLUX is a layer-1 blockchain with layer-2 capabilities for decentralized compute.

What does this mean?
ell, it means compute instances similar to the ones owned by AWS, Google Cloud Platform, Azure, etc which host the majority of websites and application we interact with in our day to day, are now possible on a decentralized manner.

Why decentralized?
ell, node operators are not limited to Amazon, Google, Microsoft, etc. We as members of the FLUX community can host nodes, which allow for websites and applications to be hosted on the FLUX network, earning rewards as FLUX coins.

This way if Amazon suffers an outage for X reason, your application will have higher chances to remain available since the hosting nodes are not centralized to a location, entity, etc.

Now that I took the time to make a small introduction to both projects. We can proceed to the guide on how to run your very own Ravencoin Full Node in very few steps!

  1. We first need to head over to https://home.runonflux.io/
  2. Once here, we need to login using our ZelID. Available for us via Zelcore https://zelcore.io/ (Remember to use always the official links)

2.1 If you don’t have an account created in Zelcore, you first need to download and install the app

2.2 Next (mandatory for your wallet’s safety), enable d2FA on the App section inside Zelcore.

2.3 Now you can authenticate by clicking on the fingerprint button or manually by signing the message manually on your Zelcore Wallet with the ZelID App

3. Now that you are authenticated, head over to https://home.runonflux.io/apps/marketplace and look for the RavenNode App. You will see something very similar to this:

4. For the “uacomment” you can use your desired identifier. You can also use your Ravencoin wallet address. Since currently there are some members of the community that are compensating people hosting RVN nodes and draft from the uacomment section.

5. Once you click on the Start Marketplace App, you get something like:

6. You can click next, or copy the Registration Message if you are signing the message manually from your ZelID App and then click next

7. Here you can click the fingerprint button to sign the request for the Application, or if done manually paste the signed message on your ZelID from the previous step

8. Now you get the monthly cost for your Application

9. Now you are provided with some payment info in FLUX. Payment is done through the FLUX blockchain in FLUX coins.

10. Send the payment for the app

11. You are done! We just have to wait for the dApp to be spawned on an available node.

When bootstrap and blockchain verification finishes, you will be able to see your nodes listed in: https://www.ravennodes.com/nodes/

Monitoring of your instances

You can head over to https://home.runonflux.io/apps/globalapps and in the “My Apps” Tab you will be able to Manage and visit you dApp instances.

Have fun exploring!

That’s it guys, hope you enjoy being an important member for the Ravencoin and Flux communities

If you’d like to buy me a coffee, I leave you with some info here :)
