Drawing on his formative years in India he provided a comprehensive survey of Yoga in theory and practice from its earliest antecedents in the Vedas through the twentieth century.
The Oxford Research Encyclopedia refers his book ‘Yoga: Immortality and Freedom’ as the pioneering modern academic source on yoga. It is unique because it deals with the “idea of Yoga as a whole!” He believed in yoga’s sameness across traditions, exactly as Swami Vivekananda did, arguing that its aim is an “eternal present” in which the practitioner is liberated from the temporal human condition.
