TAPVC is called for a defect in the veins leading from lungs to heart. In this condition the normal blood flow from lungs to heart and to the body is interrupted. Hence the veins from lungs connect to the heart in abnormal way. Due to this condition oxygenated blood enters into the wrong chamber.

The reason for TAPVC is not known yet. Some children have other heart defects along with TAPVC. The symptoms of TAPVC begin soon after birth. In some children the symptoms may be delayed. Common symptoms are breathing problems and blue appearance. TAPVC can be repaired by neonatal cardiac surgery in early infancy.
