I am a Simmons fan, and I root for Ringer’s success, but articles like this is the reason I hardly visit Ringers any more.

I just read a 1500 word post on Anna Kendrick, yet I feel like I didn’t learn a single new thing about Anna Kendrick. There is absolutely no substance, no content, just a tiresome and failed attempt to be funny.

I would say 80% of Ringers columns are exactly like this. Their writers love to make fun of everything, but their sense of humor carry a tone of cynical smugness that I find it hard to stomach. I have to say, this style of writing is very different from Bill Simmons, back in the days when he was still writing. Simmons made jokes, yet there is always a layer of warmth and substance to his writing. I wish someday he will start writing again.
