Nigeria is reputed to be the country with the largest population in Africa with estimates ranging from 150 million to 200 million. This nation at independence was recognised as being an entity with a lot of economic, cultural and political potentials. The country was expected by many to be the flagbearer of the Black man’s consciousness and pride. However, the otherwise lovely country has not taken its rightful place in the comity of nations. This can be addressed if the right steps are taken by the leaders and the citizens.

It is no more a secret that the average Nigerian’s dream may be nothing more than to emigrate from the fatherland. Young men and women, even middle-aged professionals in their forties are voting with their feet. The reasons are not far-fetched. Everyone is seeking self-actualization in countries with better economies mostly the western countries of Canada, the United states, United Kingdom,Europe and Australia. This applies to the youths outside of the ruling and political establishments who daily face the existential battle of survival brought upon them by a political system that has refused to develop an inclusive economic system.

Nigeria is not irredeemable. Good leadership will unleash the storied potentials of this country. The solution to the most critical ill of this society lies with the masses at this moment in time. We heard some youths yearning for corruption to come back the other time because of some financial challenges. No country has ever been built on corruption or the paper GDP growth it produces.

We must ensure an ethical, moral and ‘corruption-fight’ obsessed government to remains in power if only to lay a strong foundation for others to build upon. The era of ‘chop-i-chop’ governance should be relegated into the dustbin of history. All financial loop-holes must be blocked in other to conserve resources that will be used for both human, social and physical infrastructural development.
