Psalm 139:23–24 NKJV; Search me, O God, and know my heart; Try me, and know my anxieties; And see if there is any wicked way in me, And lead me in the way everlasting.

A pure diamond is transparent. The only reason a diamond would lose its transparency is due to impure chemical exposure or structural defects. Diamonds are extremely sought out possessions. People pay top dollar to have pure diamonds. The more transparent a diamond is, the more valuable it is. I believe this is a significant natural parallel into the spiritual ream. I truly believe the more transparent a heart is towards God, the more valuable that heart is to the Kingdom of God. God shows no favoritism (Rom 2:11 NLT), God equally makes available His Love and Grace. But, just because it’s available doesn’t mean it will be withdrawn. Transparency gives God access to help remove what’s toxic, and it creates intimate levels of trust to fulfill destiny.

The Fourth part of this prayer is asking God to know his anxieties. After the Psalmist asks God to search him, to know his heart and to try him, he then asks God to know his anxieties. Anxiety is just a fancy word for fear. When you hear someone say, “I have a lot of anxiety,” what they are really saying is, “they have a lot of fear.” In Psalm 34:4 we find, “I sought the Lord, and He heard me, and delivered me from all my fears.” The Psalmist is very educated in the way he’s stating this prayer of consecration. He knows if he acquaints the Lord with his fears, the Lord will deliver him from their burdening grip on his heart. If he continues to hold on to the fears, he subsequently will continue to give the enemy legal access to his life. Faith gives God access, and fear gives the devil access.

There is not a more crippling spiritual force than fear. Fear affects decision making severely, to the point of death. One of the cardinal purposes of transparency is to identify and remove fear. In the book of Philippians we are told to be anxious for nothing; “Be anxious for nothing…(Phil 4:6 NKJV). Why is it so strictly advocated to deny all forms of anxiousness? Whatever you are anxious for reveals an area in your heart that has not been surrendered to the Lord. Anxiousness is the supreme agent for bad decisions. Until fear is identified and surrendered, it is a huge potential breach for the enemy.

  • Fear takes on many different faces to the point you can be decieved of its very presence. Ask the Lord today to know your anxieties and reveal them so you can be free!
