Great article. I’m an introvert like you and have quietly struggled with this question myself. I’ve always responded with “Good, and you?” out of politeness because I’ve learned that for most people it serves more as a greeting than anything. However, when I ask someone “How are you?”, I’m always open to them telling me how they really are because I still believe I shouldn’t ask unless I really want to know, but I know most people will just give a polite answer. I only tell someone how I really feel if I know they are open to hearing it.
