I’ve spoken to other devs and managers who refuse that these things happen. They write the victim off as ‘too sensitive’ or ‘exaggerating’.
But they do happen, sometimes in small ways, slights, or other times in more distinct or offensive ways.
I once worked at a large well known company where a few female managers were given the same responsibilities and budgets but not the titles/compensation as their male counterparts.
Which was sad, because the company was overall very good to work for. Those female managers did make sure to point out the discrepancy to younger devs privately, to help us be aware what we could look forward to if we continued up the ladder.
A career of warnings? Certainly better than being blindsided over and over, but a sad statement on how things work for now.
