If you like me suffer from this kind of self destruction, I can highly recommend two things:

1. Stoic philosophy (seneca, marcus aurelius etc) whichs primary focus is exactly this topic of ‚how you interpret the world is how you emotionally perceive it - its our interpretation that makes it good or bad, not an inherent thing of the world‘

2. CBT (Cognitive Behavioral Therapy) which bases on the principles on stoicism - this doesn‘t need a therapist needfully as CBT is aimed at self application. You can easily get access to a free guided system that works extremely well at http://moodgym.com
