As a Clark alum myself, I have to say that you should be ashamed of yourself for how you are treating the school administration. Regarding your charges of “seek and cite,” there is no proof nor even any context given. Additionally, you refer to the individual as “insensitive.” Are you aware that she herself is Armenian? Or that her still-living mother is a genocide survivor? I would recommend that you reconsider this poorly conceived assertion, as well as others, in the form of an apology.
That said; the premise by which the argument is built is flawed. Maybe you should finish pondering how the First Amendment truly applies to the student body before writing the rest. Firstly, you have no “right” to free speech or expression. You have a “right” to protection from the government regarding said free speech or expression. This is not the same thing. You cannot unilaterally decide to deviate from a dresscode in a school setting for the same reason you cannot in a job setting — rules. Rules that you agreed to follow in exchange for pay or an education.
As a student, you absolutely maintain your constitutional rights in the school setting. That fact has been reinforced by countless court rulings at all levels. Even so, if you decide to exercise these rights outside the given rules, you can be detained, transferred, or even expelled. Can you be prosecuted? No, because that would be a true violation of your constitutional rights.
Henri, I would again recommend that you take a step back to consider the gravity of your statements here. They wreak of ignorance, ill-will, and all around teenage entitlement. I truly hope you are not representing the opinions of “many” students.
