Be deliberate in what you ask for…

Look up the word deliberate and the meaning will probably revolve around being intentional, calculated and purposeful about something. If someone says he was deliberate in making a decision, it most certainly means that he gave it serious consideration. Being deliberate happens not only consciously, going and goes beyond just deciding on what to do or wear, but at a subconscious level, determines whether our hopes, dreams, and goals become a reality.
Many people wish to accomplish or achieve a specific goal, a standard of living or a vision in their minds they’re convinced they can make happen, but rarely ever get to enjoy it. The intention is there, but it feels like there’s a space between the dream and living it. They struggle to bridge that gap, and it saps the energy to try something different or new to accomplish the goal.
If you’re in that space, the natural thing to do is to fall off — to put aside any intention to try and throw up your hands in resignation. Other times, the choice might be to stay small and keep with the status quo. However, crossing that space and being able to enjoy the life that you want comes down to being deliberate in the choices and actions that you take. There’s so much of life to enjoy, and your dreams are worth accomplishing, even if it takes time and effort to get there.
Accomplishing the vision you have in mind comes down to being intentional about the goal and striving to make it happen regularly. A goal worth achieving is sure to have its share of challenges, and as human beings, fear of failure (or success) is part of the equation, too. However, by making a conscious choice, a deliberate one at that, to show up and do what needs to be done, you can create the life you want. Remember, even making a choice to set down your intentions for the day is not a passive action, but rather something done with purpose.

Playing Small
Choosing to maintain the status quo is a decision that you’ve probably made at some point in your life. It’s a common choice, and many people find happiness in choosing to remain as they are. However, compared to the potential for greatness that abounds in everyone, playing small shouldn’t be the decision you opt for. Indeed, what you believe in eventually dictates the reality around you. And for many people, that’s not where the real challenge lies.
The real issue is the actions they take in going from where they are to where they want to be. Being deliberate about these actions is what’s missing, and it’s what separates a life of success and accomplishing what you want from a life spent going through the motions.
Be Deliberate
As you’ve probably figured out by now, bridging the gap starts with being deliberate about what you want out of life. This might take various forms, depending on what you want to achieve. For some people, it will mean demanding better from people or situations around them. You’ve got to start the day with purpose: “What do I want to accomplish today?”
Your answer could be something small, like getting a parking spot at work or a nice seat on the train. Whatever it is, it has to be deliberate. If you’ve got an issue with demanding, you’ve got to start with the small things, eventually trusting that as you enjoy the small steps, you’ll get to demand better of yourself in more significant ways.
Along the way, you might struggle with understanding what you want, or whether you’re actually in control of your life. You have to let go of the illusion that you’re not in the driver’s seat because subconsciously or consciously, you are. You’ll want to study the patterns of your life, the areas where results have been consistent. In these areas, you’ll surely find answers to what you want to work on and see positive results from.
The Benefit of Consistency
Every experience you’ve had or gone through, put together, sums up your life. These experiences are the result of choices made, and so you’ve got to consciously make these to define the type of experiences you want. The decisions have to be done consistently because only then will the results be consistent over time. Consistency is critical, and again, there has to be a deliberate effort to maintain it.
Your ability to intentionally define what you want out of life is your primary asset. Many people don’t think of it as such, and hence end up stuck in that space of bad energy and no progress towards their life goals. However, if you’re deliberate about wanting to change and move forward, then everything about you — from choices to actions — has to be calculated and carefully considered.
