Introduction post
Who I am as a teacher is something that is continually changing as I gain more experience in classrooms and see how other teachers do things. I have tried to take away certain things from every teacher I have had or seen, whether it be something I really liked about their teaching or something I saw that I will never do. I try to be very hands on and promote an engaging classroom where even if students are not comfortable sharing their ideas aloud, they still have ways of expressing their learning through other modes of communication. I am still working on balancing being the “cool guy teacher” as well as still being strict enough to effectively run a classroom. This is something I have improved upon through the years, but something I could still improve on.
In middle school, I hated social studies. I think this was mostly due to the material we learned, and not bad teachers. In highschool I had two very good history teachers, so once I got to highschool I enjoyed the classes much more. Those classes were much more engaging, and they were also about more recent history which I prefer. I hope through this class I can learn ways to make social studies more engaging for my students and help them appreciate social studies.
As a teacher and a citizen, I still have lots to learn. I never really followed or cared for politics in high school, and it wasnt until my senior year I really started paying attentnion to what was going on. Since then, I have started to form my own opinions on some political issues, but dont consider myself informed enough to have a good opinion on others.
