Other 80s movies focused on letters in their title card too, like de Palma’s 1981 film ‘Blowout’. Other obvious similarities can be found in the outlined letters of ‘Raiders of the Lost Ark’ (Spielberg/Lucas, 1981). Bright neon colors can be seen in many 80s title cards too, like the mid-80s Deniro flick, ‘Brazil’; Cronenberg’s ‘The Fly’.

Despite all these movies being firmly cemented in the zeitgeist of the 80s, none of their title cards exude the pure and perfect florescent darkness that could have only been born in that decade. ‘Stranger Things’ did it better in this respect.
