What is this whole Web 3.0 thing about?

That’s probably what you're asking yourself right now. I totally understand, I barely knew anything about it prior to now, but here I am writing an article about it! Pretty Wild huh?

So, what is Web 2.0 or even Web 3.0? — I got you fam.

WEB 2.0 is basically what we are experiencing online — at least right now. How? Well, The Web has come a pretty long way from WEB 1.0 where all we could do was read contents on the Web and couldn’t interact with whatever we came across. Now? all that has changed since the emergence of WEB 2.0.

The accentuation of the WEB 2.0 era was on social networking, content generated by users ,cloud computing and enhanced communication channels.

Basically, what this means is users can actively interact with the internet. A good example of this is Social media where we can post, share our ideas and thoughts on the internet. Another example is Wikipedia which enable users to contribute, collaborate and edit site content.

How is this any different to WEB 3.0?

Web 3.0 is the next step in the evolution of the internet, putting the internet’s control pad back in the hands of users. How? Decentralization. Technological innovations like blockchain, which enable the internet to operate as a peer-to-peer (P2P), fully decentralized system, help to make the distinction.

The Major difference between WEB 2.0 and WEB 3.0

Although there are a few key differences between web2 and web3, decentralization is at the core of both. Decentralized peer-to-peer networks such as Ethereum and IPFS are used to create Web3 applications, or Decentralized applications (Dapps). Instead of being constructed, run, and managed by a firm, these networks are built, run, and managed by their users. They organize themselves and have no one point of failure.

The difference in both technologies is the mainly the control of data and User privacy, At the moment consumers rely on Data companies to manage user data and information. But with the emergence of the Blockchain technology, users will be able to reclaim control of their data. With this change Security and Privacy will be better guaranteed.
