Why Jill Stein shouldn’t be President, even if she could be elected, which she can’t

Jill Stein. I get it. Voting Green sounds good. But how much have you really looked at Stein?

Stein is at least as anti-science as the Republicans. Oh, sure, she believes global climate change is real. But she has been courting the anti-vaxxer crowd and has actively supported the pseudo-science behind the anti-GMO movement. You can’t support science and reality-based policy only when it suits you and be considered honest.

Stein’s sole experience as an elected official is that she served as a Lexington Town Meeting Rep in 2005 and 2008. Somehow, I think the responsibilities of being President are greater and more taxing. Trump thinks any idiot can do the job and is out to prove it by getting elected. Stein seems to think that all that matters is good intentions. Look, experience counts. Knowing how government works, knowing how power flows, knowing the people, issues, and consequences matters. Stein, like Trump, is singularly unprepared.

Stein has some integrity problems of her own. Stein expressed support for Brexit on her website and in public statements. When people called her on it, she quietly deleted those statements and tried to pretend they never happened. I don’t object to a politician saying, “I learned something that made me change my mind.” I do object to politicians trying to re-write history.
Worse, Stein has been trying to say that Hillary and Trump are equivalent. While I can see how this might benefit her campaign, she has to know it is a lie. Hillary is a politician. Trump is a national disgrace. There is a difference. And Stein knows she isn’t going to be President, so using this argument is particularly dangerous.

Lastly, Stein is allowing herself to be used as a foil by FoxNews during the DNC. She went into the convention hall with FoxNews in tow. What kind of progressive allows themselves to be used as a tool by Fox? Answer? A tool.
