Week One: Andela Women Tech Leadership Program Cohort II
Cohort II Andela Women Tech Leadership Program officially kicked off. Six weeks of coding, advocacy, leadership and entrepreneurship sessions. Six weeks of learning, networking, and embracing the unknown.

A definite plus for me is how much I have been able to learn in such a short time from my time in the previous cohort to this one. There is a mix of both life lessons and coding expertise. Before the previous cohort, Python was an alien concept. I vowed to myself to get it cracking and understand it before going any further. I am not disappointed. The growth curve carries on exponentially. Of course, I may be biased. But there are more aha! moments than the “what is going on?” looks of exasperation.
For the launch of the second cohort of the Women Tech Leadership Program, we were graced with the presence of Andela Head of Technology, Bradley Scott and Andela Country Director Uganda, Jackie Ochola. It was awesome hearing from them about their various experiences and I picked up a few things they shared.
From Bradley Scot’s journey, I grabbed three points that resonated with me;
- There’s more learning in having failed and trying again.
- You will fail sometimes, but you will succeed more times.
- Dream😊
Andela Uganda described Jackie Ochola as a powerhouse. She has quite the experience from a global perspective and as a woman in tech. When she drops Stephen Covey quotes, talks about management, doing whatever it takes to nurture your dreams, and achieving excellence, I know this is something I must take on.
Thanks to Andela, I am more committed to my learning and getting better in every aspect of my life. This training program tackles more than just my development and social skills. I am challenged day by day to grow and never give up.
My final takeaway was a quote Jackie Ochola said by Johann Wolfgang von Goethe, and it goes “If you treat an individual as he is, he will remain how he is. But if you treat him as if he were what he ought to be and could be, he will become what he ought to be and could be.”
