There is news about the Lucid Air. And if you are now just thinking “about what?”, please bear with me and I will explain.

Lucid Motors is an American automotive company for electric cars founded in 2007. They are based in California and are formerly known as Atieva.

Their recent prototype of a four-door saloon was unveiled in December 2016 and is exactly what we are talking about here:

The Lucid Air

It has an electric front and back motor which deliver, in combination, about 900–1000 horsepower. Now the news about the Lucid Air is, that a (slightly more than) slightly stripped version of it has beaten the Laguna Seca lap time record for production EVs, held by the Jaguar I-Pace. It exceeded the Jag’s time about 7 seconds!

Because the Lucid Air is a prototype, the official record holder still is Jaguar, but…

1) On the track, the Lucid air was driven by their own engineer and the Jaguar I-pace lap was done by a professional racing driver.

2) Even if the Lucid Air was stripped down, 7 seconds seems more time than you would gain by doing so.

3) If you would put a professional racing driver behind the Lucid Air’s wheel, it might be even faster.

So, if we take all those points into account, it is very much possible that a fully stock Lucid Air would be still faster than the Jaguar I-Pace, which means it is only a question of time until Lucid will gain the official EV record at Laguna Seca.
