The nostalgia surrounding classic cars clouds the automotive air like a bittersweet perfume. While the interest people have in yesteryear’s machines is delicious for the soul, it comes with the aftertaste of reality that high-priced beautiful classics are bought to be kept off the road. But where there’s demand, there’s a need for supply — hence, Aston Martin have just opened a showroom dedicated to classic cars.

Opened in London’s glitzy Mayfair, the showroom isn’t too far away from a regular Aston Martin dealership. Specialising in cars that have been given some TLC courtesy of Aston Martin Works classic car division, the showroom gives Aston a much better location to sell their classics compared to their Newport Pagnell facility.

It would be naive of Aston to ignore the current market for classic cars. In 2016, their run of DB4 Continuation cars sold out, not to mention that they’ve received a lot of interest for their recently announced DB5 Goldfinger — despite it costing £3.3million, and not being road legal. To top it off, last month at Monterey Car Week, a 1963 Aston Martin DP215 racing prototype sold under the auctioneer’s gavel for $21.5million!! It’s only natural that Aston would want to capitalise on such potential for profit.

Traditionally, cars start their life in a dealership. Given that the cars sold here will have seen a showroom once before many moons ago, I guess we can really think of this place as a medium of transition from an old life to a new one for these classics.
