I recently made a trip to photograph a Car Museum called “Lost in the 50's”
One of my favourite cars there was this 1961 Chrysler Imperial Coupe. I was just stunned by all the attention to detail and design quirks of this car, I’d certainly never seen anything quite like it.
Let us start with the headlights. See how they are in their own enclosures, mounted away from the body? almost a retro back to vintage cars with their huge lights.. And the gnurled ring around the lip..
And one of my favourite 50’s features — the fins! They certainly didn’t spare on them here..
And this BEAUTIFUL boot emblem. Chrysler had a thing for these, the 300 had a cool one too..
I love how they raised the whole emblem to look like a spare wheel well (maybe it was? Maybe the spare wheel is really under there?) That must be the petrol cap in the middle, right above the (awesome) bumper bar.
The Tail Lights got the outboard treatment too. I think they look amazing.
That ring around the tail light looks like something from a space ship!
Continuing on with the Space-ship theme is the Interior. How cool is that? No plastic there, I suspect!
Even the front got fins!!
So what do you think? Was there ever anything more beautiful than this that come out of America?
