Porsche have a horrible habit of ‘accidentally’ revealing their new models in prototype form way before the actual production model is revealed at a motor show. The next generation 911, known as the 992, is no different.

The 992 generation is due for reveal any time soon now and it is know for manufacture’s to shed prototype disguise’s on new models just before they get revealed. The biggest change with the 992 model is the completely redesigned rear end with it is one piece LED light bar which has been seen before on the Cayenne SUV and the Panamera range.

Other changes at the back include the exhaust tips being integrated into the bumper. This design seems to be inspired by the GT2 RS. The deck lid also has a new design with more air vents to cool the rear mounted turbocharged engine.

The front end has also been given a slight redesign with better cooling ducts in the front bumper, thinner LED indicators and refreshed headlights.

When it comes to engines, expect the 992 generation to carry over the engines of the 991.2 generation. This means we should see the usual range of flat-6 turbocharged petrol models for the basic range. Power numbers are currently unknown but expect a slight hike in power. This means that the basic Carrera model should have close to 390–400bhp and the Carrera S model to have 440–450bhp.

There are also rumours of a 911 hybrid model which should use technology from the 918 Spyder and Panamera Turbo S E-Hybrid. We reckon a 911 hybrid model would be the range topping model meaning the 911 Turbo S will be a hybrid. This is exciting news as the 911 Turbo S should have well over 600bhp for the first time.

We will get more information about the new 911 when it gets revealed, which should be by the end of the year.
