3 Ways to Reconnect with Jesus

We are all busy. Crazy busy. In fact, we have got to a point we wear ‘busy’ as a badge of honor. I think sometimes to be busy makes us feel as if we are important. If someone asks us what we have going on, even if we can’t think of anything, we enjoy saying, “Just staying busy.”

You know as well as I that when we get ‘busy’, we often stop doing some very important things. We even neglect some of the most important people in our lives. Have you noticed that when you get busy?

I think a good way to determine if you are ‘too busy’ is to ask yourself if your relationship with Jesus is suffering. Bottom line, if I am neglecting my personal time with Jesus, my daily standing appointment with Him, then I am too busy.

When we neglect our relationship with Jesus, all of our other relationships get out of whack. Regardless of how busy we are, we are never truly enjoying life as He meant it to be, if we aren’t spending time with Him. So how can I reconnect with Jesus? Here are 3 ways:

  1. Create a standing appointment with Him. My standing appointment with Jesus is right after I wake up. I find that spending time alone with Jesus first thing in the morning helps me put Him first throughout my day. God wrote a book called the Bible. Pick one of the books and listen to what His Word says. Go into your reading with a question: What are two things God’s Word is teaching me? Don’t stop reading until you write them down. Then talk to Him. Ask Him to help you work the truths you have just written down into your life. But whatever you do, don’t miss this appointment.
  2. Get involved with God’s people. Find a group of Jesus-followers who are serious about walking with the Lord. Get around them to be encouraged and be an encourager to them.
  3. Tell others about Jesus. I know you are thinking, ‘hold on, you don’t know me, I don’t do stuff like that.’ Well look, Jesus promised to be with us in a unique way as we are involved in the mission of making disciples. This is one of the greatest ways I have found to connect with Jesus.

Don’t get me wrong, there are other ways to reconnect with Jesus. But these are three ways I have found that help me reconnect with Him. Don’t allow ‘being busy’ to become an idol in your life. If Jesus is neglected, then whatever else you have going on has become your god.
