Thanks for the insightful article Richard. Retail POS payments made with crypto are likely to remain a marginal niche because there is no driver to use crypto over fiat in that circumstance except as a novelty.
Crypto will have sustainable use cases, however, in the P2P domain, for speculative trading and gamified apps, and for “off-shore” purposes including online gambling. (Craig Wright and Calvin Ayre seem to have an agenda to turn Bitcoin Cash into the world’s gambling coin.)
Presumably the crypto coin or coins used as currency for “mobile” non-bank payments will mostly be stable coins, not speculative coins, along with privacy coins like like XMR and ZEN. There is a credible movement to replace Tether in this regard, which is a necessary first step.
