Hello

This is the blog of Miriam Kent.

I am a media representation expert interested in the relationships between politics and portrayals of gender, sexuality and race. I use a critical feminist approach to make sense of representations of people in the media and link these to wider cultural issues facing those who are marginalized.

I recently completed my PhD about representations of women in films based on Marvel comics, so I’m particularly interested in Hollywood film and comic books, and how they are informed by and feed into contemporary western politics.

I blog here and elsewhere to make critical media studies as accessible as possible. I aim to inform and engage in a way that is readable, entertaining and thought-provoking.

You can follow me on twitter @drmarvel_ should you so desire.

My work has also been featured on the Feminist and Women’s Association Blog, The F Word and Feminist Media Studies, as well as the edited volume Marvel Comics into Film: Essays on Adaptations Since the 1940s (2016).

I’m available for comment on issues of gender, race and sexuality representation in the media. You can contact me at miriam.kent[at]outlook.com
