This week I chose a Podcast from Zimbabwe because I wanted to see what African pod-casters have to offer to their audience. I picked Sadza in The Morning because they have a interesting name and I don’t eat sadza in the morning. We all know sadza is a heavy meal so it must be such a challenge to consume it before 11 am. The name could be a methaphor to say that the podcast has heavy content. They call themselves the Beyonce of Zimbabwe podcasts. Lets find out.

I chose episode 76 titled There’s “Zim”, Then There’s “The Miz”. The Miz is basically how the 1% in Zimbabwe live, so i decided to indulge myself. The hosts discussed what this topic meant to each other and then they further went on to discuss a bougie wedding in Harare whereby the 1% was 1 percenting. They looked at the topic of the 1% but I didn't get the deep dive that I was looking for from a podcast.

In between conversation they would play music to introduce segments or new topics, it was a bit different but I rolled with it. I guess they were filling spaces even though the pod was relatively short at 1 hour 10 mins. My biggest gripe was that there was never a deep dive of the topics and they never fully interrogated each other. They either played it safe or all 3 members agree with each other. Which is also fine but I just like some pushback.

The podcast is informative if you are a based in the diaspora and want to keep abreast of what is happening in Zimbabwe social circles and gossip. It was brave of one of the hosts to give his political opinions on Zimbabwe. It was a discussion that I never expected but none of his colleagues quizzed him on it. That would've been interesting.

Whilst it is expensive, i’d really like to see this podcast with a greater YouTube presence simply because of the different ways that consumers consume podcasts and also because the hosts’ personalities will come out more through the medium of video. They can release clips that will keep the streets fed.

The only way is up for this podcast and i will be watching them to see when they have their viral moment and they start PODDING!!
