Podcast Listening Challenge Week 8: Why Won’t You Date Me? Podcast
A random internet search and boom I was directed to The 30 Best Podcasts to Listen to in 2020 and lucky the first entry struck a chord with me. I had never heard of the host Nicole Byer but its difficult to go wrong with a comedienne because if all else fails they will make you laugh. Plus the podcast had a user friendly run time of 49mins. Given that she is a one woman army, this is a podcast that is interview based and therefore 50% of the show depends on the guest. All that being said I began looking for an episode to explore.
I chose the episode titled Seeking Single Men at Target with Janelle James because the date was far enough to avoid any Corona talk. Actually tired of hearing about this pandemic. The ladies got right into it and Janelle James started comparing East Coast and West Coast men, haha!! Consensus was that East Coast men are much better and they are more macho. The ladies also discussed when you should let a man see your real hair and how long you should keep up the pretense that all this beauty comes natural.
Janelle and Nicole are hilarious because they discuss issues around sex and relationships openly and they share their experiences with no shame. You can’t help but not root for them over the course of these 49mins. Most of their stories sound like something that either happened to you or somebody that you know of and hence it’s very relatable material.
Janelle spoke of women shooting their shot and a know a lot of women are frightened of this because they are used to being the hunted and not the hunter, but then she said something that all ladies could use going forward. ‘When you approach a guy as a woman its a person that you don’t know, and if he rejects you or is not interested, then its still a person that you did not know, that you still don’t know”, not exactly her word but very similar. This was part of the conversation of how Janelle approaches single men at Target. Target or any supermarket is a good place to find a mate because you can actually deduce quiet a bit about a person simply from analyzing what is in their shopping bag.
They also discussed the “Apps” namely Tinder and how some guys can have 6 ladies on rotation which is absolute madness in my opinion. Janelle said she is not a fan because of this level of wildness. I really enjoyed her laugh, its memorable. She sounds like such a happy person and Nicole allows Janelle to thrive and this makes for a great podcast. These are women that are sure of themselves and I’m here for this kind of content.
This is a podcast I will give a second listen to again in the future and one listen piqued my interest in the host and her guest Janelle James. She also has her own podcast on the way and she does shows around the US, check her out.
I thoroughly enjoyed this week’s listen and you should give it a try if you want to hear about sex, dating, relationships and need a laugh.
