There is a rumour/leak that Apple is working on a lot of AR (Augmented Reality) and VR products, and one of these products is the Apple AR smart glasses.

Augmented Reality (AR) is a perfect blend of the digital world and the physical elements to create an artificial environment, and Virtual Reality, on the other hand, is a computer-generated simulation of an alternate World or reality.

There are speculations that the smart glasses will be unveiled in March or June of 2021 and later released in 2022 or 2023. The name that Apple has given to smart glasses is Apple Glass

Although there are some controversies around the choice of name by Apple, that it may not be the best because something similar exists, and that is the Google Glass, which became available in the market in 2014.

Design

The design of the glasses will look like the regular glasses but with feature displays that can be interacted with by using hand gestures. There are also rumours that the Apple Glass will come in variations, one without prescription lenses with a starting price of $499 and the other with prescription lenses, which will attract an extra cost. Others have speculated that there will be only one Apple Glass that will automatically adjust for people with not poor sight. Apple Glass will bring information from your phone to your face.

The smart glasses might be sold as an iPhone accessory, which means that some of its functionalities will be dependent on you using an iPhone and selling it as an accessory will also reduce the size and its heaviness.

The glasses might also come with a plastic stand with wireless charging. From the leaked prototypes, there is a possibility that the material used would be Plastic, but in the release variant, Apple might use metal.

The smart glasses could also feature LiDAR (‘Light Detection and Ranging). LiDAR is a technology that enables the detection of objects, measures how long it takes light to reach an Object and reflects, and builds 3D maps of surroundings in near real-time, allowing the user to see objects as they are. It also helps to get and show the 3D representation of the scene in front of the camera. With this feature, it will eliminate the possibility of having a camera on the glasses.

Operating System

According to Bloomberg, the Apple Glass will run on ROS, which means Reality Operating System.

There are AR Glasses in the market that have not lived up to the expectation, but we are hoping that with Apple Glass, the story, and experience will be different and wonderful.

What are your thoughts on this and would you consider getting it when available?
