The Beatitudes — A Poem
The Beatitudes (Mathew 5: 3–11)
Poor in spirit
I didn’t want to hear it
My pride made me jeer it
When I should have feared it
Happy are those who mourn
I’ve been trying to find “happy” since I was born
But really I just been forlorn
My way of life left me torn
What is this about the meek?
A suffering servant came to seek
He is looking for lost sheep, & and even those who tweak
The God-Man came for the weak
You must hunger and thirst
But let me say this first
You’ve got to admit you’re the worst
Before God and His righteousness will give you a burst
For His mercy will fill your heart
He will give you a new start
You see sin is just missing the mark
Trustin’ in Him and a new journey you can embark
But you have to be perfect you see
And my sins condemned me
Pure in heart He said you must be
But Jesus has set me free
S o now I have peace with God
Now this one’s obscure, but in Ephesians He told me to shod
My feet with peace like I’m wearin’ clogs
He’ll pull me out of the filthy sod
Now you may suffer for this transformation
Your friends may not understand your explanation
It’s OK — you are now part of God’s Nation
And trust me when I say there is now no condemnation
S o trust Him today even though you feel low
And crush the head of satan with this blow
Your best efforts got you in prison, just going with the flow
Take the narrow path and He will make you whiter than snow
